National Water Saftey Month

As we head into peak pool season, May serves as an important reminder to prioritize water safety for your family and guests. At NuWave Pools, we’re committed to helping our customers enjoy their pools safely, and we believe a few simple precautions can make a meaningful difference.

The 5 Layers of Protection

No single safety measure is enough on its own. The most effective approach is using multiple layers of protection that work together:

Barriers & Alarms – Fences, self-latching gates, pool covers, and alarms help prevent unsupervised access to the water.

Supervision – Always designate a “water watcher” and maintain close, constant attention whenever anyone is in or around the pool.

Water Competency – Swim lessons and water safety skills help children and adults feel more confident and capable in the water.

Life Jackets – Properly fitted, U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets add an extra layer of protection, especially around open water.

Emergency Preparation – Knowing CPR and basic rescue skills—and having a phone nearby—can make all the difference in an emergency.

Florida Expands Access to Swim Lessons

This is also a great time to start thinking about swim lessons for your family. A new Florida law is expanding access to swim lessons by broadening the state’s swimming lesson voucher program. Children between the ages of 1 and 7 are now eligible.

The program provides state-funded vouchers to help cover the cost of swim lessons for eligible families, which can be used with approved providers for structured, professional instruction.

Families can apply through the state’s WaterSmartFL program when enrollment opens each year, with applications available online for a limited time until funding is filled.
